While children have long been recognized to
be especially vulnerable to certain toxins, the availability
of specialized expertise for the recognition, diagnosis and
treatment of affected children has been limited. The University
of Washington Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit
seeks to develop a critical mass of expertise in order to
provide health care providers, educators, parents and their
children with: training and educational materials; telephone
consultation for patients, their families, and health care
providers; risk communication; and enhanced pediatric clinical
diagnostic and treatment services.
The Pediatrics Environmental Specialty Unit is funded by
the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics
(AOEC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
(ATSDR). |
