Honda New Technologies, publication, 6.5" x 6.5", 20 pages, Autumn 2003

ID Magazine, Design Distinction Award (Student Category) 2004

Many people view innovations in transportation such as fuel cells and electric cars as science fiction - Flash Gordon inventions never to manifest in our day to day life. This publication attempts to shift this attitude with a humorous and memorable journey through a day in the life of a robot, simultaneously revealing the utility of these exciting new technologies as well as Honda's integral part in their development.

Vivid photography shows a robot - a standard fixture of science fiction and a classic symbol of the future - progressing through a fairly normal day. As he moves from his home to his work, and then out on a date that evening, he uses new transportation technologies such as fuel cell cars and community autos. Interspersed with the visual story are inserted "fact sheets", describing the technologies displayed in that spread. Placing an extraordinary symbol of the future within familiar situations illustrates the approachability of these innovations. Seamlessly integrated into their environment, they become no more foreign than taking a shower or driving to work. The excitement of their introduction is succinctly captured in the final spread, where it is now clear that these new technologies are "The future, available now."
