Writing at Insomnia Cafe
I wrote for about 11 hours yesterday -- perhaps a new record for me. I started at the Starbucks by my place at 7:20 am, left there at 9:30 am. Ate "lunch" at 10:30, walked to Insomnia Cafe on Beverly, and hunkered down there for about six and half hours. Made significant progress on my beat outline and treatment (I'm kind of writing them at the same time, to keep it interesting, by moving between big plot decisions and small scene moments).
I counted 17 laptops in use at once at Insomnia. I think all of them were working on scripts (including mine). I did overhear one conversation that in turn allowed me to cement the following:
Film Snobbery Habit #1
Reference to film idols on an overly personal basis, without having that personal relationship, i.e. "Have you seen Steve Spielberg's latest? Such brazen aping is gonna make Jim Cameron blush!"
If you were in LA yesterday, perhaps you noticed it was storming something fierce in the afternoon/evening. Fortunately, Halbe picked me up at Insomnia after she got off work, saving me the douse I would have received on a walk home in that mess.
